Legal Counsel/ Administrative Law Judge

The Utah Public Service Commission is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Commission Legal Counsel and Administrative Law Judge.  This position is located in Salt Lake City, Utah, and has a salary range of $64,500 - $97,000, depending on experience and qualifications.

The Legal Counsel/Administrative Law Judge reports to the Chairman of the Public Service Commission and serves at the pleasure of the three-member Commission.  Primary responsibilities include advising the Commission on legal matters, drafting orders that convey decisions of the Commission, writing legal briefs, defending Commission orders before the Utah Supreme Court, conducting legal research, and presiding at administrative hearings as designated by the Commission.

To qualify, an applicant must have a Juris Doctorate and at least three years full-time paid professional employment as an attorney.  Candidates must be an active member of the Utah State Bar or able to be an active member at the time of employment.  An applicant must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.  Experience in and knowledge of administrative law will be favorably considered.  As a senior position at the Commission, the successful applicant must be capable of independent legal analysis.
